IMPORTANCE OF CORAL REEFS
Did you know coral reefs only make up 0.1% of the ocean’s surface area, but support 25% of all marine life? They are one of the most important ecosystems on the planet and support biodiversity in our oceans! Over 4,000 species of fish depend on coral reefs at some point throughout their life.

Not only are reefs beneficial to the marine ecosystem, but they also are important to humans. Through supporting commercial fisheries and fishermen to improving coastal resiliency from storms, floods, and erosion, coral reefs greatly support coastal communities, the economy, tourism and recreation, and more.
